The mission of the Helen Svonavec Memorial Fund for Pets Inc. is to provide medical and surgical services to stray and homeless dogs and cats and then find them the loving homes that they deserve. Our future dreams include projects that will strengthen the human-animal bond in our community.
The fund was established in 2023 in memory of Helen Svonavec by her son. We honor her by continuing and expanding her benevolence through the fund established in her name. . We are based in Monticello, Indiana, and serve the White County area. We work from donated office space and kennel space. Volunteers care for the dogs and cats we help, and a volunteer board manages the Fund, keeping overhead costs to a minimum.
Helen was born on May 25, 1940. Helen was a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. A devout Catholic, Helen was a loving, compassionate, and generous person who also had a wicked sense of humor. Helen loved all things furry and feathered. She could never turn her back on a stray that needed her. By the time of her death on April 27, 2020, Helen had rescued countless animals in need.
